A Writer's Thanksgiving

It's here, friends. The holiday season. A time for turkeys and twinkle lights, shopping and snowflakes, decorations and drama (probably... if your extended family is anything like mine). Every year, I'm thankful for pumpkin pie and holiday carols. I enjoy special dinners with friends and cuddle time with my babies under the tree. I reflect on my life and reorganize my priorities. It's one of my favorite times of the year.

Since starting my writing journey, I count myself thankful for a new list of blessings:

  1. I'm thankful for the possibility of the blank page.
  2. I'm thankful for the redemption of rewriting real-life dating flubs.
  3. I'm thankful for Scrivener, spell check, the Writing Excuses podcast and thesaurus.
  4. I'm thankful for how much can be accomplished in a dedicated 20 minute sprint.
  5. I'm thankful for friendships with real-live critique partners who share my goals.
  6. I'm thankful to be inspired by a wide variety of publishing paths.
  7. I'm thankful for the sweet solitude of staying up late with my fictional friends.
  8. I'm thankful for writing retreats, writing conferences and all other writing-inspired events where I can geek out with my people.
  9. I'm thankful for the feel and smell of freshly printed paper.
  10. I'm thankful for the cathartic release of spilling a story that begs to be told.
My best to you this holiday season. May your characters be troubled, but your plot lines flawless.
